The Beloved

Fiend · Crown of Lust

T3d8Minor

A strikingly attractive humanoid of shifting, indeterminate features whose beauty adapts to each observer's preferences. Its eyes are warm, its laugh genuine, its interest in you real -- in the moment. It also likes the person next to you, and the person behind them, and it cannot help itself.

Every non-charmed creature within 30 ft makes a Heart save (DC 15) or is charmed, devoted to the Beloved until it takes damage. It holds up to six admirers at once.

Maneuver

Beckon

One creature within 30 ft makes a Heart save (DC 15) or spends all its movement walking toward the Beloved.

Reactions

Reaction

Living Shield

When attacked, a charmed creature within 5 ft steps into the blow and takes the damage instead. It does so willingly.

Tactics

GM tactics

Opens with Irresistible Allure to charm as many targets as possible. Beckons the ones who resist until they come within reach. Sets charmed admirers against each other for entertainment, then loses interest in the ones no longer useful, devastating them. Hides behind charmed bodyguards using Living Shield. The real danger is the aftermath -- abandoned targets are desperate and dangerous.

Rules

  • Vigor equal to Tier, with an overflow of the same size behind it: 3, then 3 more. Neither half regenerates.
  • A hit deals a flat 3, no roll. A crit (natural 20 only) rolls d8 and never lands below 3.
  • Crits on a natural 20 only.
  • Minor: no stat modifiers or dice in play; its scores describe the creature, they do not roll.
  • At 0 Vigor it breaks and flees, out of the fight but alive; Fanatics fight on into the overflow instead.
  • Total damage reaching 6 kills it outright, and a single blow of 6 or more kills it on the spot.
  • Vigor damage is simply damage against a Minor: its whole pool is Vigor.
  • Two attacks in a normal turn: Tier 3+ Minors get a second.
  • Group morale: when its group loses half its number, fled or dead, the rest check morale.
  • NPCs never take wounds.
