The Unbroken Thread

Celestial · Crown of Tradition

T5d12Sovereign

A towering figure wrapped in flowing linen streaming in an impossible wind, covered in names and family trees in every language. Its face shifts between the features of every ancestor of every person present. In one hand a needle; in the other, a thread of golden light stretching into infinity.

Passives

Passive

Anchor of Identity

Within 300 ft no creature can be made to forget who it is: charm, domination, and memory alteration fail, and creatures already under such effects are freed. The Thread itself is immune to all mind-affecting magic.

Passive

Genealogical Omniscience

Knows the complete ancestry of every creature it meets, back to the Theocide, and which of the 12 Innocents any Meridian creature descends from.

Maneuvers

Maneuver

Weave the Thread

It touches a creature and permanently restores one lost memory, broken family bond, or severed tradition.

Declarations

Declared in the enemy tactical window and resolved at the start of its next turn. Any Vitality it loses first forces the disruption roll: on a 1 the telegraph is lost.

Declaration

Ancestral Judgment

Telegraph · disrupt d6 · Heart save

The needle flashes, and every enemy within 60 ft faces the weapon its ancestors most feared, wielded by a face from its own bloodline. Each makes a Heart save or takes 5 damage; on a success it takes 1 Vigor damage.

Reactions

Reaction

Thread of Connection

When a creature within 300 ft would suffer identity-altering magic or memory erasure, golden threads snap taut: the effect fails and the caster takes 1 Vigor damage.

Tactics

GM tactics

Opens by activating Anchor of Identity, which automatically frees all identity-compromised creatures within 300 ft. Uses Weave the Thread on the nearest community if one is present, restoring what was taken from it. Uses Ancestral Judgment against enemies, manifesting their ancestors' most feared weapon. Thread of Connection punishes any attempt at identity alteration. The Unbroken Thread reconnects past to present and insists the thread will not be broken.

Running it

Rules

  • Shield of Tier + Heart mod over a Vitality pool of 10 + 4 x Tier. Full Vigor at combat start; at the start of its turn it rolls 5 exploding d4s and regains 1 Vigor per 4. Dead at 0 Vigor and 0 Vitality.
  • A hit rolls d12. A crit rolls two: 2d12.
  • Crits on a natural 15+ (Cunning 20).
  • Two or three attacks in a normal turn: multiattack is the threat scaler, and one swing a round makes it a mook.
  • Sovereign: 2 Sovereign Actions a round, spent after other combatants' turns, on top of its attacks.
  • Any Vitality lost while a telegraph is pending forces its disruption roll; on a 1 the telegraph is lost.
  • Never checks morale: it fights to 0 Vitality or to the exit written into its lowest phase.
  • NPCs never take wounds.
