The Voice Undying

Celestial · Crown of Zeal

T5d12Sovereign

A fifteen-foot being of living sound given form-layers of vibrating brass inscribed with prophecies. Its face is a great horn-mouth opening into golden light. Words leave its mouth as burning brass letters that hang in the air. Standing near it is like standing inside a cathedral organ.

Passives

Passive

Unbreakable Conviction

Cannot be charmed, frightened, or made to doubt. Silence does not apply within 120 ft of it: silenced sounds burst forth at double volume.

Passive

Resonant Brass

Regains 1 Vigor at the start of its turn as its plates ring back into tune. It regains nothing while its horn-mouth is stuffed or muffled.

Maneuvers

Maneuver

Word of Shattering

A single word leaves its horn-mouth as a 30 ft cone of crushing sound. Fate save (DC 19): failure takes 5 damage, success takes 1 Vigor damage. Non-magical objects in the cone shatter.

Declarations

Declared in the enemy tactical window and resolved at the start of its next turn. Any Vitality it loses first forces the disruption roll: on a 1 the telegraph is lost.

Declaration

The Final Sermon

Telegraph · disrupt d6 · Mind save

It preaches a truth every creature within a mile hears in its own language; nothing blocks the sound. Creatures within 60 ft make a Mind save (DC 19): failure takes 5 damage and is dazed for 1 round, unable to ignore what it now knows; success takes 1 Vigor damage.

Reactions

Reaction

Sonic Rebuke

When a creature within 120 ft tries to silence or suppress sound, that creature takes 1 Vigor damage as sound itself rebels.

Tactics

GM tactics

Opens with The Final Sermon so that every creature for a mile hears the truth it carries. Uses Word of Shattering against the most concentrated group. Attempts to silence it only feed it, so it advances straight into them. The Voice is the Throne of Zeal's ultimate weapon, deployed when a buried truth must be unearthed by force.

Running it

Rules

  • Shield of Tier + Heart mod over a Vitality pool of 10 + 4 x Tier. Full Vigor at combat start; at the start of its turn it rolls 5 exploding d4s and regains 1 Vigor per 4. Dead at 0 Vigor and 0 Vitality.
  • A hit rolls d12. A crit rolls two: 2d12.
  • Crits on a natural 15+ (Cunning 20).
  • Two or three attacks in a normal turn: multiattack is the threat scaler, and one swing a round makes it a mook.
  • Sovereign: 2 Sovereign Actions a round, spent after other combatants' turns, on top of its attacks.
  • Any Vitality lost while a telegraph is pending forces its disruption roll; on a 1 the telegraph is lost.
  • Never checks morale: it fights to 0 Vitality or to the exit written into its lowest phase.
  • NPCs never take wounds.
