Wanting Fly

Fiend · Crown of Lust

T1d4Minor

Iridescent insects the size of a thumb with wings that shimmer in colors the observer finds beautiful. Their buzz is alluring, like a melody you cannot place. They cluster around sources of longing and amplify existing desire from idle wish into consuming need.

Passives

Passive

Drawn to Desire

Senses unfulfilled desire within 120 ft and always flies toward the creature wanting hardest. Flies 40 ft.

Maneuvers

Maneuver

Craving Venom

When its sting hits, the victim makes a Heart save (DC 11) or is weakened (save ends) as an idle want swells into a fixation on the nearest thing it covets.

Maneuver

Swarm Frenzy

Every wanting fly within 30 ft converges on one creature. The target makes a Heart save (DC 11) or takes 1 damage and the fixation lasts until the swarm is scattered; on a success, takes 1 Vigor damage.

Tactics

GM tactics

Swarms in large groups around creatures with strong unfulfilled desires. Stings repeatedly to build cumulative craving effects. Targets the most emotionally vulnerable party member. Individually negligible but devastating in swarms of 10+.

Running it

Rules

  • Vigor equal to Tier, with an overflow of the same size behind it: 1, then 1 more. Neither half regenerates.
  • A hit deals a flat 1, no roll. A crit (natural 20 only) rolls d4 and never lands below 1.
  • Crits on a natural 20 only.
  • Minor: no stat modifiers or dice in play; its scores describe the creature, they do not roll.
  • At 0 Vigor it breaks and flees, out of the fight but alive; Fanatics fight on into the overflow instead.
  • Total damage reaching 2 kills it outright, and a single blow of 2 or more kills it on the spot.
  • Vigor damage is simply damage against a Minor: its whole pool is Vigor.
  • Group morale: when its group loses half its number, fled or dead, the rest check morale.
  • NPCs never take wounds.
